Sans ex-husband Desi Arnaz, Lucille Ball returned to television with a half-hour show based, in part, on the novel, Life Without George, written by Irene Kampen. The Lucy Show made its debut October 1, 1962, and lasted six seasons. From there, the queen of comedy starred in another show titled, Here's Lucy, which enjoyed a six-year run as well. Lucille Ball's character on The Lucy Show was a newly widowed secretary named Lucy Carmichael, who worked for a branch of the First National Bank located in Danfield, Connecticut.

Following its wildly successful six-season run, "I Love Lucy" expanded to a one-hour format as "The Lucille Ball-Desi Arnaz Show" (later released as "The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour"). These hilarious "specials" debuted with the 75-minute-long "Lucy Takes a Cruise to Havana," in which Lucy McGillicuddy - vacationing with her best friend Susie MacNamara (guest star Ann Sothern) - meets Ricky Ricardo for the very first time.
