This special 50th anniversary hardback edition of J.R.R. Tolkien's classic masterpiece includes the complete revised and reset text, two-fold out maps printed in red and black and, unique to this edition, a full-colour fold-out reproduction of Tolkien's own facsimile pages from the Book of Mazarbul that the Fellowship discover in Moria. Since it was first published in 1954, The Lord of the Rings has been a book people have treasured.
1st Printing. Good condition book with dust jacket. DJ is clean, has fresh colours with a few small tears - it is a little loose fitting. Book has clean and bright contents.
This is a Guild Publishing edition (a Book Club Associates imprint) and is 'first thus', produced on good quality cream paper.There are fold-out maps to the rear of all three volumes: the maps to vols 1 and 2 are identical (Western Middle Earth). The map in the final volume is larger scale and portrays Mordor and surrounding areas. There is no slip case, and as far as it is possible to tell from other listings on ABE and elsewhere there never was a slip case with this set.
