Forty Years Of Service
Excerpt from Recollections of Forty Years Service My relations often suggested that I might write an amusing, and possibly interesting, little book about my early days in the Service. I therefore put together a small work, 'A Subaltern in the Royals, ' and had intended publishing it. But last winter one of the most renowned commanders of modern days, who has done more towards making the British Army what it ought to be than any one who has administered its affairs for many generations, suggested that I might give some useful professional information by publishing the whole of my experiences during the many years I had the honour to belong to the British Army.
Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made available for future generations to enjoy.
