Quake 4 (Xbox 360)
The Quake series has always been a schizophrenic one, with the odd numbered games being primarily multiplayer affairs and the even numbered ones being focused on single player – with very little connection between the two. As maths fans will have already realised that means that Quake 4 picks up from the ending of Quake II and once again chronicles the battle between humanity and the alien Strogg.
The Quake legend grows with the fourth release of this storied shooter. Victory is the only option in an epic invasion of a barbaric planet. But in order to defeat the Strogg, you have to become one of them. Begin the game as an elite marine. After you're captured, re-enter the fray as a Stroggified marine with enhanced capabilities. Fight in small-squad missions and in full-scale blitzkriegs that rage across indoor and outdoor battlegrounds.
In a Desperate War for Earth's Survival, The Only Way to Defeat Them is to Become One of Them Earth is under siege by the Strogg, a barbaric alien race moving through the universe consuming, recycling and annihilating any civilization in their path. In a desperate attempt to survive, an armada of Earth's finest warriors is sent to take the battle to the Strogg home planet.

After the 7.1 magnitude earthquake that shook Canterbury, New Zealand on September 4, 2010, the news media were quick to report, with understandable relief, that no lives had been lost. In fact, this first quake killed at least 3,000 chickens, eight cows, one dog, a lemur, and 150 aquarium fish, and that was only the first of a series of even more catastrophic quakes that were to follow, in which many humans and animals perished.
