Remarkably, this is the third studio album Creedence Clearwater Revival released in 1969! During that stunning burst, John Fogerty could do no wrong. Green River isn't as chock-full of CCR standards as the record that followed it in 1970 (Cosmo's Factory), and at 30 minutes it's briefer than its rather brief predecessor (Willy & the Poor Boys). Still, this is economy at its best.

Remains of a late medieval and Tudor moated mansion, known from the 17th century as Worcester House, were located on Crossrail's Stepney Green shafts work site in London's East End. Its rich merchant and aristocratic owners had a fine country residence with easy access to the city and to the River Thames and so to overseas trade. In the early 17th century it was among properties owned by the 1st Marquis of Worcester, a supporter of Charles II, which were confiscated by Cromwell's Parliament.

Excerpt from All Along the River: A Novel It had been raining all the morning, and it was raining still, in that feeble and desultory manner which presages a change of some kind, when the postman came with the long expected Indian letter. He was later than usual. It was nearly two o'clock, and Isola had been watching for him since one. She had been sitting by the open window, with an unread book in her lap, looking out at the wet landscape, the glistening hedgerow and dull gray river, with the great green hill beyond, a steep slope of meadow land, dotted with red cattle, and so divided by hedgerows as to look like a Titanic chessboard.

Although it was nearly nine o'clock, the shadows, long gathering in the valleys and the woods, had hut just now overflowed onto the broad levels of the river. Above was hurry of low-lying clouds, through which swift star-gleams seemed to flit, like the momentary beacons of the rare fireflies along the shore.

For over half a century, the U.S. Geological Survey and collaborators have conducted stratigraphic and geochemical studies on the Eocene Green River Formation, which is known to contain large oil shale resources. Many of the studies were undertaken in the 1970s during the last oil shale boom. One such study analyzed the chemistry, mineralogy, and stable isotopy of the Green River Formation in the three major depositional basins: Piceance basin, Colo.
Throughout the 1980s, the highest priority of Seattle-area police was the apprehension of the Green River Killer, the man responsible for the murders of dozens of women. In 1990, with the body count numbering at least 48, the case was put in the hands of a single detective, Tom Jensen. After 20 years, when the killer was finally captured with the help of DNA technology, Jensen spent 180 days interviewing Gary Leon Ridgway in an effort to learn his most closely held secrets - an epic confrontation with evil that was every bit as disturbing and surreal as can be humanly imagined.

Early Utah pioneers passed through the area that is now Green River and decided that the land would not support a farming community. The Farrer family did not agree with this assessment, however, and they opened one of the first stores in Green River around 1883. Always a diverse town, Green River has a long-standing tradition of religious tolerance and the coexistence of different faiths.

Ruth Rogers and Rose Gray have an unswervingly clear vision of how food should be cooked: they take immense care over the ingredients and cook them as simply as possible. But one vitally important element in the art of preparing good food is one which we have increasingly lost sight of: seasonality. If you cook food in its right season it will inevitably taste better.
The Elqui Valley is as extraordinary a wine region as you'll find - anywhere. Just next door to Chile's inhospitable Atacama Desert, it hasn't seen rain for six years, yet thanks to snowmelt from the Andes and the wonders of irrigation, green and flourishing vineyards stand out in stark contrast to their surroundings. From a winery created by two Italians, Aldo Olivier and Giorgio Flessati, Elqui River is made from hand picked grapes, fermented at low temperature to lock in the aromas, and allowed to mature on its lees for a creamy complexity.
